Bad Faith?

Abstract

For many of a certain age, and not just professional intellectuals, Jean-Paul Sartre will always be the theorist of freedom, the one who made freedom not just a political slogan but also a personal project. One might imagine that given their individualistic understanding of freedom, young people would be taken with Sartre. Unfortunately, Sartre now belongs to the ages, or at least to another age. Few young people could say much about his philosophy.
