Abstract

The simultaneous presence of the Adventist and the local vision of the world often make it difficult for the members of the church to decide how they should act in daily life. This is the subject matter of the final two chapters before we come to the conclusions of this book. Chapter 12 will focus on the social relationships among Adventists as well as the social relationships between them and their non-Adventist neighbors, friends and in particular kin. The present chapter examines how the life of an individual is marked by the simultaneous presence of the Adventist and the ordinary Malagasy view of things. Of course, a person’s individual life is not separable from his or her social relationships. It is only for the purpose of analysis that I have disentangled the two.
