Abstract
President Mohammed Khatami of Iran visited Malaysia for three days in July 2002. He arrived with a 91-member delegation that included five ministers and deputy ministers. Malaysia pulled out all the stops. Why? Because Iran and Malaysia are close trading partners? No, they’re not. Because they’re big investors in each other’s economy? No, not that either. There’s another reason that is evident from all the fuss that was made.
