Abstract

It is time to present the findings of the qualitative research. In this chapter I concentrate on what children said; in the next on what adults said. The material comes from individual interviews and group discussions. It does not necessarily represent the ‘opinions’ of particular people who were interviewed, as though these are fixed and the job of research is to discover them; rather it represents ideas produced in the course of doing the research (see Holstein and Gubrium 1997). Sometimes a rough indication is given of how often a particular theme was mentioned or how strongly a view was put, in the way that ‘qualitative’ research so often speaks of quantities. Sometimes a view is quoted simply because someone expressed it and it seemed interesting. The material is organised and presented according to themes that emerged from the data.
