Abstract
The Great Patriotic War, as the Soviet–German war is still called in our country, was treated by Soviet historians in isolation from what was going on in other theatres. Thousands of books and articles, memoirs and documentary volumes were produced to show that the USSR played the decisive role in the defeat of fascism. Emphasis was laid on the fact that we suffered the heaviest losses and that operations on the eastern front were on a greater scale than those elsewhere.
