Abstract
Much of what is written in the field of coping with health and illness adopts Westernized views of health, illness, and healthcare. Similarly, caregiving research is commonly underpinned by models of stress and coping, which inherently presume Western conceptualizations of family and support. Given the challenge of the global aging population and the diverse and growing ethnic mix of modern populations, this is unsatisfactory and creates a knowledge base that does not describe nor have relevance to all caregivers.
