Abstract

Over the past decade the number of young migrant workers leaving my hometown—a small village in the southern part of Shandong Province—has been steadily increasing.1 Most of the migrants are men, and some of them leave their wives and children behind. Media and scholars refer to the women as “rural left-behind women.”
