Abstract
“You a clown?”
The guy startled me, mid-gawk. The arena was transformed. What had been bare cement and echoing rafters for Clown College had turned into the frame of a circus for three weeks of rehearsals. Three rings spread across sea-green rubber mats, cables snaked between large blue boxes on wheels, and ropes webbed the air. A small, jeep-like vehicle called a Clark was pulling one of the boxes. The guy, short and bald, with a cockeye, repeated, “You a clown?”
We will meet; and there we may rehearse most obscenely and courageously.
