Abstract

The hip-hop and tattooing culture among Muslim youth that were discussed in the previous chapters can indeed also be seen as practices of resistance by young Muslim minorities in negotiating their everyday lives in urban, secular, and multicultural environments. In this final empirical chapter, I take a closer look at consumption practices in Singapore and Sydney in order to demonstrate the nascence and evolution of Muslim youth strategies of resistance in both cities. I will present a rich discourse whereby a collective action of resistance attempts to redraw the moral boundaries of popular culture.
