Abstract

Peacemaking and mediation have been at the center of my activities, and indeed of my life, for the last 20 years at least. When people ask me what lessons I have learned, I generally say, “When one is engaged in a complicated mediation, making mistakes is unavoidable, but one can avoid making the same mistakes again and again. Better make new ones each time … and learn from each one.”

The lecture was held at the American University of Beirut on January 21, 2010, and edited in July 2015.
