Abstract

Over the last 30 years in the UK, second-wave feminism and gay, lesbian and transgender liberation have undermined the normative assumptions of the male-dominated research paradigm of science, reason and objectivity. Taken for granted dualisms (mind/body; reason/passion; culture/nature; male/female) were inherited from the enlightenment (Ramazanoğlu and Holland, 2002), and an unequal, gendered opposition was constructed between objectivity (men’s sphere) and subjectivity (women’s sphere).
