Abstract
Conventionally, aging men as sexual beings are seen as past it, unobtrusively stable, or even asexual (Gott and Hinchliff, 2003; Serrant-Green and McCluskey, 2008). Sexuality is popularly viewed as the exclusive domain of the young and mainly as youth-focused activity (Schiavi, 1999) and so the assumption is that aging men and women do not have the right to enter the privileged space of the young and certainly not with their perceived undesirable and unattractive bodies. Viewed through such an ageist prism, aging men who display a sexual interest are liable to be seen as inappropriate or even ‘dirty old men’.
