Abstract

Professional doctorates were introduced to the United Kingdom in the 1990s. The UK Council for Graduate Education report found that the number of professional doctorate programs in the United Kingdom grew from 109 in 1998 to 308 in 2009. For the doctor of education (EdD) alone there were 38 programs in 2009, with some 2,228 students.
