Abstract

Can a female athlete embody the spirit of a nation? The study of sports teaches us that the essence of the practice traditionally lies in the construction and consolidation of masculinity. The accomplished vigorous male athlete who, wearing the colors of the flag, cries as he listens to the national anthem is also a proud national warrior. What happens when a woman occupies that place in the podium?
