Abstract

This chapter can be divided into three parts. In the first, we examine the effects of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s election on the failure of negotiations with international representatives and on the referral of the Iranian dossier to the UN Security Council. In the second, we analyze the impact, on the foreign and domestic front, of the international sanctions imposed on Iran. In the third part, we focus on the description of a few technical-diplomatic initiatives aimed at resolving the outstanding issues between Iran and the IAEA, which came to a head with the “work plan” of July 2007.
