Abstract

One of the main features of online self-presentation is the way in which people use selective and controlled self-disclosures to share information about the self to create certain self-images to others. This chapter explores this notion by considering the motivations outlined in Chapter 3 as underlying motivations that influence the way in which self-disclosure ensues online. Also considered are a number of factors that influence this motivated self-presentation, including reciprocal interactions, voluntary and involuntary self-disclosures.
