Abstract
The dawning of the 21st century posed diverse external and internal challenges, including internationalization, double peer review, shrinking career opportunities and restructuring. Internationalization had hastened the fragmentation of the sociological community. The Swedish Sociological Association, Sociologisk forskning and the Swedish language became hot topics of debate within the sociological community. Attempts to reclaim sociological expertise were made. The chapter ends by looking at how the future development of sociology is envisioned.
