Abstract

In the previous chapter I explored problems and issues with development aid to Africa and Asia. In this chapter I focus on the application of a human rights perspective to aid in education, making the case that the use of local language as a LoI is crucial to quality learning and self-directed development. A systematic integration of rights into development programs is essential to the improvement of education and the amelioration of poverty’s multi-dimensionalities (Babaci-Wilhite et al., 2012). To put it succinctly, there is a need for a paradigm shift in national education policies for African development grounded in the Rights-Based Approach. The Rights-Based Approach can contribute to arresting the processes of exclusion and marginalization that are impacting on the lives of so many children in Africa and Asia in the wake of globalization.
