Abstract

This book explored the social dimension of the Bologna Process and its reflections in Finland, Germany and Turkey from the policy process perspective. The study was prompted by the ambiguous situation of the social dimension of the Bologna Process. Although the social dimension was included in the Process in 2001, in the benchmark year of 2010 its policy implications were still ambiguous, unlike other areas of the Bologna Process. The study discussed this situation of the social dimension by answering the following questions:

  1. 1.

What does the social dimension of the Bologna Process mean according to the Bologna Process actors? What are the different understandings, and how do they differ?

  2. 2.

What is the relationship of the social dimension with the rest of the Bologna Process?

  3. 3.

Is the social dimension of the Bologna Process reflected in the national-level Bologna Process policies in Finland, Germany and Turkey? How?

  4. 4.

What is the explanation of the social dimension’s existence on the Bologna Process agenda?
