Abstract

Considering higher education as an essential element in the advancement of individuals and societies, the social dimension has the potential to promote fairness in higher education, since this action area focuses on the equity and wellbeing concepts in the Bologna Process context. So far, it has been “a moving target” whose features have not been defined. This chapter explores the main features of the social dimension by looking at how different policy actors understand and define it in different contexts, and shows patterns through systematic comparison of these features. Finally, the chapter discusses the relation of the social dimension with the other action areas of the Bologna Process.
