Abstract
This chapter makes clear some dominant aspects of current economic life and its social as well as psychological consequences: people participate in and benefit from, but at the same time are victims of the current worldwide economy, which results in people lacking time. People lack time for everything. Particularly due to the exceptionally competitive economy, they are scared about the future. The question must be asked: why are people so deeply embedded in a global and dominant economy, without being able to get rid of its constraints and increasing looming dangers? This is to be answered in Chapter 2.
