Abstract

This book has undertaken an existential quest to understand the meaning and nature of heterosexual romantic loving relationships. Existential philosophies provide the narratives to interrogate implicit assumptions about romantic loving behaviors and expectations, and to bring into question saccharine romantic fictions. Although critical of romantic loving, the five existential philosophers in this book did not dismiss it, but instead highlighted flaws in romantic ideals and problems that arise from misplaced expectations.
