Abstract
In understanding how and why the generation known as the ‘Baby Boomers’ has been constructed as a social problem today, we need to begin at the beginning: that is, with the concept of ‘generation’. But the definition of a generation is itself contentious. As Kertzer (1983) notes, generation is a concept with a multitude of meanings, and has been of interest to human society for ‘many millennia’ (p. 125).
