Abstract

American democracy is in crisis partly because American schools are not adequately preparing students—and society—for dealing with the complex challenges of the future. The problem is primarily conceptual; we need new ways of thinking about schooling. We need to shift from the attempt to standardize our students and instead focus on celebrating and supporting diversity.
