Small and Medium Enterprises in Indian Textiles

  • Chapter
SMEs in Indian Textiles

Abstract

Formal definitions of small and medium size enterprises have been varied and plentiful. Hooley and Ahamed (1990) speak of labor estimates and mechanical power to determine different subgroups. The most widely used definition is that given by Staley and Morse (1965). They specify medium enterprises as having 100–199 employees. This has been modified to 50–99 workers — to better fit with the industrial structure of a number of Asian countries (Staley and Morse, 1965, p. 8).
