Abstract
For the last two decades art scholars have been concerned about repositioning the arts in Nigeria as an important contributor to the country’s development in the evolving global scenario. On the role of the arts in enabling Nigeria to adapt to the times, to fight the fever of underdevelopment and the negative fallout of global warming, and to adequately survive, Professor E. S. Dandaura was motivated to make the following remarks:
One of the contending issues in cultural administration in Nigeria has been the role of the creative industries in promoting the growth of the Nigerian economy. The suspicion by the political class over the years have been that the creative industries are only but a drain in the national purse as they lack the capacity to generate reasonable wealth for the nation.1
