Abstract
London (2011b) states that education in Vietnam has been seen as ‘an avenue to social mobility’. It can also function as ‘an obstacle to such social mobility, as a giant sorting mechanism that generates, reproduces, or transforms existing social inequalities’ (London, 2011b, p. 3). Vocational education and training (VET), an essential component of Vietnamese education, is playing an increasingly important role in response to the national demand for a high-quality and skilled labour force.
This chapter draws on Tiên Thị Hạnh Hồ’s doctoral research undertaken at the University of Technology, Sydney.
