Abstract

The book concludes with a summing up of our theoretical perspective on presence and of how a consideration of when and why we feel present can help us to understand our relationship with and experience of the world, and especially of the computer-mediated environments in which we increasingly live our daily lives. Brief speculations are also made about the ways in which presence will develop in the future, both in immersive virtual realities and in evolving blends of the physical and the virtual.
