Abstract

The book concludes with a short chapter that brings together the ethical orientations of the commonplaces developed in previous chapters. The conclusion explains how the commonplaces interact for education to emerge, and reiterates that it emerges most fully when schooling’s everyday activities do not stay within the walls of school. Rather, education breaks out when schools respond positively to being called to responsibility for the world’s vulnerable and to being inspired to hope that things can get better. Education emerges when schooling’s ethical orientation is ultimately animated by the call of justice that comes from the world.
