Abstract

This book set out to characterize OILE as a research object and it is important at this point to take stock of the extent to which this aim has been achieved. OILE has been demonstrated to exist in close relationship with a number of existing paradigms and fields in applied linguistics (Figure 8.1) yet to offer something to each of them, either as a context of application, as in the cases of DST or incidental acquisition, or as an opportunity to re-evaluate existing definitions, as in the cases of CALL, input hypothesis or the learner autonomy model.
