Abstract

The previous chapter described the Japanese eldercare system. This chapter seeks to describe the main features in the Norwegian eldercare system today and in the years ahead, in terms of content, organization, and financing. Both Japan and Norway are rich welfare states, spending large resources on eldercare every year. Even though development is similar in some respects, there are still numerous differences in availability, content, and organization. Cultural differences are another important divide between the two countries. These will in various ways influence both the basic thinking and the practical side of running the welfare state’s care system.
