Abstract
This chapter draws on two ethnographic studies to explore the relationship between sport and language related to masculinity and homosexuality. First, it examines how coaches and players construct and regulate masculinity in organized sport through the use of language. I then examine how homosexually-themed language is reproduced in sport settings. Finally, I examine how these two types of language—about gender and about sexuality—are related in these changing times.
