Abstract
The rancorous partisan political divide provides a glimpse at two of the strands within American society. This divide is described often as progressive against the conservative, or something similar. Usually, the descriptions are only considered from either a political or a religious view. For this essay, I am going to blend the two, touching on how the political divide is also profoundly religious. On the one hand, there are religious conservatives who have worked to construct the United States into the Christian nation that they alone define. On the other, activists work to create greater equity around the world, informed by ethical and religious values that they infuse into political values.
