Abstract

Departing from the perspectives of victims of violence, perpetrators and activists, and from the specific historical and political contexts of Iraqi Kurdistan, this book discusses the experiences of violence, killing and threats to kill made against women in the name of honor, as well as women’s resistance and struggles. The focus of the study is on men’s violence against women, who constitute the vast majority of victims, but, as demonstrated throughout the book, women and men can be found on both sides—as victims and as perpetrators.
