Abstract
This chapter describes and discusses the methodology used for the Young People and Violence study. It pays particular attention to the ways in which young people’s views were sought and discusses the specific — and unique — combination of instruments that were used in the study. The chapter explores the fundamental role of youthcentred methodology in seeking to gain a fuller understanding of young people’s relationship to violence. The case for focusing on discourses about violence to understand young people’s gender expectations and behaviours is made.
