Abstract

Chapter 5 outlined how movement spokespeople dealt with counter claims against the movement. There I illustrated how, in challenging anti-Muslim claims against the movement, spokespeople for the movement developed a left-wing movement identity through a framework that is inclusive of Muslim identity claims. Here, in Chapter 6 as well as Chapter 7, I will examine how Muslim women activists interpret and re-frame these same issues in their participation in the movement at a more grassroots level.
