Abstract

This introduction provides an overview of research on the scope of rape; the importance of a society’s faith in the police force; common reservations about reporting rape; typical reactions of victims to the police interview process; and the characteristics of real-world rapes (as opposed to stereotypes about it). This will provide a foundation for the more in-depth and specific explorations of these topics in later chapters.
