Abstract
The plays examined in this study were a mixed lot that garnered, on the whole, mixed success. The high points of the plays, like many I .W.W. rallies, were vibrant and colorful events, and the staged Wobblies certainly kept the Big Stem lively. In terms of advancing Wobbly causes or even producing long-lasting, evergreen theatre that audiences would return to, the Wobblies on Broadway fared less well—the obvious exception being the Eugene O’Neill plays (particularly Iceman ), as O’Neill’s name value as an important playwright still looms impressively large.
