Abstract

This paper will briefly make some general points regarding the evolution of Islamist movements over the past eighty years.1 It is a cliché to say that Islamist movements have evolved a great deal. If there is one particular point we have learned since the establishment of the first 20th century Islamist movement, is that this continuity is important in trying to understand what has happened within Islamist movements over the last eighty years.
