Abstract
As discussed throughout this book, the events of 9/11 have had a profound impact on Islam-West relations in terms of both intercommunity relations in Western countries and international relations in the global context. In the international realm, we have witnessed war and conflict between Muslim and largely Western forces. Within Western countries, Muslims have been subject to Islamophobic attacks and found themselves at the center of debates on immigration and asylum seekers, Western versus Islamic values, integration and the failure of multiculturalism. While such issues have been around for a number of decades, it is only since 9/11 and subsequent acts of terrorism that Islamic and Muslim issues have dominated political, media and public discourse.
