Reduta’s Reorigination of Theatre

Abstract

In 1970, a remarkable book appeared in Poland: O zespole Reduty: Wspomnienia [On the Reduta Company: Recollections], a collection of essays by former company members published to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the theatre institute. In the spirit of Reduta, whose playbills never listed individual names and whose members collectively shared all organizational, artistic, and pedagogical responsibilities, this collective creation by great Polish actors lists neither author nor editor, and the unsigned short preface bears the scant title, “A Few Words from Us.”
