Abstract

As a way of concluding, I would like to reiterate the fact that this book does not seek to eliminate thought experiments from philosophy. What I hope to have shown is that the case studies presented provide concrete examples of pathologies which, in many respects, reflect conditions equivalent to those set out in the hypothetical scenarios characteristic of thought experiments. What the introduction of these pathologies enables the philosopher to do is test his or her a priori reasoning against a posteriori discovery. Moreover, for those with a background in cognitive neuroscience or related disciplines such as psychology or psychiatry, I hope that the philosophical discussion has proven to be illuminating and therefore contributed to a greater understanding of the topics covered.
