Abstract

With nearly half of all travel bookings now taking place online in the US and UK, traditional travel agents are no longer the gatekeepers to the world’s most exotic destinations. At least in most western societies, booking sites like Expedia and Priceline have eased growth, following a boom over the past 15 years or so, settling into their roles as top players in the market (WWWMetrics, 2014). The novelty of online travel planning has worn off and now we are left to make sense of the surplus of information and offers scattered online.
