Francoist Tools of Government

  • Chapter
Iberian Military Politics

Abstract

This chapter analyses the tools that the Francoist regime utilised to keep the military subordinated. Many of these tools were similar to those observed during the Estado Novo. However, there are some fundamental discrepancies concerning the intensity or salience of some types of tools that contribute to rejecting the hypothesis of a common ‘authoritarian’ style of control in both countries.
