Abstract

It’s a lovely, warm summer’s day in July 2006 when I pull up outside Esther’s family home in a small parish village on the outskirts of Millthorne. Her house is part of a relatively new estate set amongst older cottage homes and quaint village shops. All the houses on the street have immaculately manicured gardens and on the day that I arrive to interview Esther for the first stage of the QL project, many of her neighbours are outside on their lawns, making the most of the good weather.
