Measuring the Immeasurable?

Capturing Citizens’ European Identity

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Research Methods Series ((REMES))

Abstract

‘Who are you?’ asked the stranger. ‘I am Michael’ was my answer. Not ‘I’m a Frenchman’ or ‘I’m a Londoner‘, neither ‘I’m a European’ nor ‘I’m an academic’, certainly not a reference to my religion, ethnicity, beliefs, political preferences, or philosophical stances. Just a word, a name, devoid of any connotation, or, at least, devoid of any connotation that anyone else than me, stranger or close friend, could decipher.
