Abstract
The Roman monarchy established by Romulus was overthrown by a revolution in 509 BCE. The ensuing Roman republic witnessed subsequent quarrels between patricians and plebeians. The strife came to a pause 60 years later as the Roman constitution offered a compromise. The laws were carved on 12 bronze tables. The Law of the 12 Tables, representing the core of the mos maiorum, or way of the elders, was posted in the Roman Forum for all to know.
