Abstract

This chapter focuses on the key institutions and institutional processes that govern foreign policy in the EU as well as security and conflict in the UN. The chapter begins with a historical overview of the origin of the EU and UN so as to highlight how various factors led to different institutional outcomes in the EU and UN. The second part of the chapter examines the EU’s institutional framework, followed by an overview of the UN’s framework. In conclusion, a comparison of both systems is provided.
