Abstract
Are the women’s bureaux powerful enough to improve gender equality as the Korean gender regime has promised? Will the policy pronouncements of active intervention in gender equality and improving gender sensitivity throughout public policy become reality? This study seeks answers to these questions, paying special attention to discrepancies between policy rhetoric and practical ways of functioning of women’s bureaux in the Korean gender regime.
