Abstract
Even though there seems to be no great technical roadblocks to advancing the social web, there are still many issues that need to be recognized and resolved. Paradoxically, many of the good and worthy factors in the social web have their flip side that bring challenges or is even serious and negative. These mainly result from shifting from a virtual space into something that connects people in real life, the social web, and they relate either to what constitutes the real-world “me” or the relationship between me and “my friends” in the virtual world and vice versa. The former comprises privacy, identity and credibility paradoxes, and the latter is composed of friend, filter and value paradoxes.
